Reducing emissions by turning waste gas into chemicals

New research in a ‘CORESYM’ (CarbOn-monoxide RE-use through industrial SYMbiosis between steel and chemical industries) report has concluded that the steel industry can drastically reduce CO2 emissions by recycling part of its carbon emissions in the chemical industry.

STFC Bridging for Innovators Programme

STFC has launched the Bridging for Innovators (B4I) funding programme to support UK Industry to improve productivity and overcome production issues. The funding forms part of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF), the government’s £4.7 billion support for R&D over the next four years providing significant investment for industry-led, multi-disciplinary research and business/academic collaboration. KTN’s Nigel Rix will be facilitating two Industry Briefings to cover the scope of the funding programme and details of the application process, as well as discussing the levels of funding available and the facilities on offer.

Faraday Battery Challenge: Innovation Round 2 Briefing Events

Networks in Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy (BBSRC NIBB) Phase II

Registration deadline for community meeting: 05.01.18. Community meeting: 17.01.18. 

Expression of interest deadline: 24.01.18 at 16:00

BBSRC, in association with EPSRC, has announced a call of up to £10 million to fund a second phase of Networks in Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy (BBSRC NIBB). They intend to fund a number of Networks, of varying scales, focusing on a broad range of fundamental and strategic challenges and questions facing the IBBE area. Networks will operate for up to 5 years and are expected to become self-sustaining beyond this.

UK businesses can apply for a share of £19 million for innovation projects in manufacturing and materials or infrastructure systems. Funded projects will target opportunities that offer significant changes in productivity and cutting-edge innovations. A further £16 million is available for KTPs. Biomedical Catalyst Round 4 - Late Stage Awards and Primer Awards

Application deadline: 07.02.18 at 12:00

The aim of the Biomedical Catalyst is to support the development of innovative healthcare products, technologies and processes. Small or medium-sized UK companies can apply for a share of up to £8 million to work on solving healthcare challenges in a clinical setting or a relevant late stage environment (late stage awards) and/or for a share of up to £4 million to work alone or with others on solving healthcare challenges in a model system (primer awards).

Open Sector Competition - Round 4

Application deadline: 28.02.18 at 12:00

UK businesses can apply for a share of up to £19 million to deliver game changing or disruptive innovations with significant potential for impact on the UK economy. This Innovate UK competition is open to the best business-led cutting-edge or disruptive ideas or concepts with a view to commercialisation. These can come from any technology and apply to any part of the economy. Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTPs) applications are welcome. There is £14 million of funding for KTP applications.
