AI-enhanced process analytical technologies: Opportunities and Challenges Workshop

04-02-2026

An engaging and forward-thinking workshop took place on 30th January 2026 at Singapore Institute of Technology and brought together innovators, researchers, and industry experts in the region to explore the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the pharmaceutical and technology sectors. The agenda was packed with insightful presentations, collaborative ideation, and networking opportunities, making it a standout event for professionals eager to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

The morning sessions set an inspiring tone, beginning with GSK’s session on how AI and Process Analytical Technology (PAT) are revolutionising drug process development. Attendees learned about the integration of AI-driven analytics with traditional PAT tools, unlocking new possibilities for efficiency, accuracy, and scalability in pharmaceutical manufacturing. The discussion highlighted real-world examples where AI has accelerated decision-making, improved process control, and reduced time-to-market for critical therapies.

Later, Paeonia Innovations took the stage to showcase their latest advancements in spectrometry, demonstrating how AI models are leveraged to enhance the precision and application range of spectroscopic analysis. Their presentation emphasised the power of machine learning to interpret complex datasets, enabling faster and more reliable detection of compounds in research and industrial settings. This session sparked lively discussions on the potential for AI-enabled instruments to set new standards in quality assurance and product development.

The collaborative spirit of the workshop was evident during the ideation session at noon, where participants openly shared initial problem statements and solicited opinions from peers. This interactive approach fostered a sense of community and encouraged cross-pollination of ideas, with attendees from diverse backgrounds contributing unique perspectives on current industry challenges.

A well-earned lunch and networking break provided further opportunities for informal discussions and the forging of new professional relationships. Energised by these conversations, the afternoon resumed with an idea generation and collation session. Participants worked in groups to refine concepts that emerged earlier, focusing on actionable solutions and identifying areas ripe for collaborative innovation.

Overall, the workshop successfully fostered knowledge exchange, inspired practical innovation, and strengthened the network of professionals dedicated to advancing AI in science and technology. The momentum generated promises exciting developments in the months ahead, as participants translate today’s ideas into tomorrow’s breakthroughs.
